About a year ago @hesterassen posted a picture of a peacock in a beautiful stone monastery on Instagram. Because of the filter I thought it was a painting but Hester told me it was not. So I started working on one immediately. After finishing the background however, I hesitated. Ripping up and sticking on hundreds of little pieces of paper (hoping they look like stones) is maybe a nice idea but tedious (and boring) work. What if I ruin it all with the wrong paint or a bad choice of brush? So it took me a while to work up the courage and paint over the paper layer. I’m quite happy with it although I see many things I would do differently next time around (if I’m ever able to work up so much patience again). 80 x 80, acrylic on canvas.
